Overview
Made from plastic, 3D living hinges are flexible (flexure bearing) are thin and join two stiff plastic parts. The thinned section of plastic, also known as the hinge allows for bending around the line of the hinge and all the parts are built at once, together (as one unit).
It is extremely durable as there is little wear and minimal friction, which make it useful in designing micro electromechanical systems.Polyethylene and polypropylene, which compose the hinge, are low in cost, easy to use, and have terrific fatigue resistance, as they can flex over 1,000,000 times without failure.
Why Connex?
– Connex printers can print the polyethylene and polypropylene based hinges quickly and easily. They are handy and can be used for:
– Clips
– Left and right clamp shells
– Caps and packaging
Tips and Tricks
While working on your CAD file, you must convert it to a STL file. This can be done as a part of the prep for the prototype using Objet Studio software. You may choose different materials to define certain labelling areas. Finally, you can select the thickness of the coat, which ranges from 0.3mm to 3mm and does not affect the tolerance, as it extracts existing material.
