Because of the integration of 3D engineering tools in their product development process BMW is able to create vehicles that are technological innovations that define the industry.
The German automobile, motorcycle and engine manufacturing giant has provided the Quality Control Department of its BMW 3 series product site with a Creaform HandyPROBE arm-free probing measurement apparatus.
The Creaform HandyPROBE portable coordinate measuring machine(CMM) arm-free probing system, along with the C-Track dual-camera sensor, create a unique duo which produces high-accuracy measurements with an accuracy of up to 22 µm and also increases the speed of the measurement process and reliability.
“The fact that BMW could benefit from the HandyPROBE increased accuracy, faster measurement process and automatic alignment feature without the hassle of having its entire crew trained on new software was a key selling point", said Jean-François Larue, HandyPROBE product director.
With Creaform’s TRUaccuracy™ technology, highly-accurate measurements were made possible, regardless of the surrounding environment or vibrations.
“For an automotive manufacturer like BMW, it is crucial to be able to use different brands and types of measuring devices with it,” explained Marcel Lenherr, General Manager of Metromec.
