Yonder Biology has erased the line between plant and pet.
What does this mean?
Dean Sauer and Andy Bass, founders of Yonder Biology, have developed a new kind of pet.
“We have something that complicates the whole pet-plant paradigm,” said Bass.
The Dino Pet is the world’s first bioluminescent pet. This renewable pet photosynthesizes during the day and glows brilliantly at night.
In early 2012, the duo attempted to build a bio light that was a renewable, sustainable light source.
“We looked to nature for inspiration,” said Bass, which lead them to dinoflagellates. Dinoflagellates are tiny creatures that use bioluminescence and produce their own food through photosynthesis.
Next in their product development lifecycle was merging science and art. Yonder Biology used CAD software and 3D printers to develop the unique dinosaur-shaped casing that gave the project its name.
“Though creating the Dino Pet, we want to inspire young minds and present biology in a fun and creative way,” said Sauer.
