Design Guidelines by Additive Manufacturing Process

Polymers & Filaments 3D Printing

HP® Multi Jet Fusion (MJF)

HP Multi Jet Fusion, or MJF for short, is a powder bed fusion additive manufacturing process that deposits fusing and detailing agents into powder material to create isotropic polymer parts.

Stratasys® Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM)

Fused Deposition Modeling is an additive manufacturing process that selectively deposits a thermoplastic filament through a heated nozzle to build up parts layer by layer.

ETEC® Digital Light Processing (DLP or cDLM)

Digital Light Processing, or DLP for short, is a phased array wide area additive manufacturing process that uses a projected light source to cure layers of photopolymer resin.

Stereolithography (SLA)

Stereolithography or SLA, is a vat photopolymerization additive manufacturing process that uses a UV laser light source to selectively cure each layer of a part, tracing it into a vat of liquid photosensitive thermoset resin.

PolyJet

PolyJet is a liquid photopolymer jetting additive manufacturing process that uses ultrafine printheads to deposit a liquid photopolymer resin layer by layer. Parts printed with PolyJet can have multiple materials or colours.

FORUST Bio-Mass Binder-Jetting

Shop System Forust Edition is the first commercially available 3D printing system to process upcycled sawdust into functional, end-use wood parts using high-speed binder jetting technology.

Metal 3D Printing

Desktop Metal® Metal Binder Jetting

Metal binder jetting is an additive manufacturing process where a binding agent is selectively deposited onto a powder bed of metal binding the payers together to form a green part. This part then goes through a multi-step process to remove binder and to sinter the part into its final metal form.

Desktop Metal® Bound Metal Deposition (BMD)

Bound Metal Deposition™ (BMD) is an extrusion-based metal additive manufacturing (AM) process where metal components are constructed by extrusion of a powder-filled thermoplastic media. Once printed, the binder is removed via the debind process, and then sintered—causing the metal particles to densify.

Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS)

Direct metal laser sintering is a metal additive manufacturing process where a high-power laser is directed towards a bed of powdered metal and sinters particles together to form a part.

Selective Laser Sintering (SLS)

Selective Laser Sintering or SLS, is a powder bed fusion additive manufacturing process where a laser selectively sinters polymer powder layer by layer to build a part.
